Vidya Balan to Play Silk Smitha in ‘The Dirty Pict

If reports are too be believed Bollywood actress Vidya Balan known for being always covered up in cloths and displaying super acting skills in films like ‘Parineeta’, ‘Paa’ will play southern bombshell Silk Smitha in ‘The Dirty Picture’. According to reports the film to be produced by Ekta Kapoor's Alt Enterainment, though is a biopic onSilk Smitha,but will not focus on the sleaze factor associated with her but willfocus on the tragedy behind the mask of the sex symbol who providedtitillation to thousands of on screen viewers in several films but diedlonely death.

Producer Ekta Kapoor who recently produced ‘Love, Sex Aur Dhoka’, India’s film digital directed by Dibakar Banarjee said "I've been waiting for almost two years for the script to be ready. Now my writer Rajat Arorahas finally put the finishing touches to the story of a woman whodefied all conventions to become a sensation in the South buteventually committed suicide. Let me tell you, this will be my mostexhilarating and powerful production ever. It's about women'sempowerment and the loneliness behind stardom." According to reports Ekta Kapoor has signed director Milan Luthria, who has directed films like ‘Hat Trick’ (2007), ‘Taxi No. 9211’ (2006), ‘Deewaar’ (2004), ‘Chori Chori’ (2003), ‘Kachche Dhaage’ (1999) to direct ‘The Dirty Picture’. Milan Luthria is currently directing ‘Once Upon A Time In Bombay’ which is also being produced by Ekta Kapoor through Balaji Entertainment and is about former don Haji Mastan and the rise of Dawood Ibrahim in the Mumbai underworld.

Vidya Balan said "Yes, Milan Luthria came to me with the film that you're talking about. But it's too early to speak about it at the moment." Director Milan Luthria said "It would be premature to reveal on record who's playing the lead. But yes, I'm directing ‘The Dirty Picture’ for Ekta Kapoor. I was bowled over when I read the script. The story has everything. It's a mirror of our times. Silk Smitha was a cult figure in her times. She spawned so many imitations including Nylex Nalini and Disco Shanti. In fact, I worked with Disco Shanti in ‘Najayaaz’ when I was assisting Mahesh Bhatt saab." Silk Smitha, real name Vijayalakshmi was anactress, popular for her sexy image in films. She was born into a poorfamily in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh and left studies after 4th standard topursue her ambition. She got recognition for her first major role in aTamil film ‘Vandi Chakkaram’ (1979). Silk Smitha acted in over 200 Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi films. Silk Smithawas found dead in her apartment in 1996 in Chennai. It’s believed thatshe committed suicide, because of financial problems, disillusionmentin love, alcohol dependency and depression, and loneliness.
